HYMS welcomed 41 year 12 students to the Pathways to Medicine launch event on Wednesday 15th February. All the students, who lived locally, had expressed an interest in studying medicine in the future and were from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
At the launch event students attended a preparation for work experience workshop delivered by Dr Paul Docherty as well as an interactive session led by Dr Marian Flynn. Students tested their manual dexterity on the laparoscopy simulators, learnt about caesarean birth as well as having a go at delivering a 'baby’.
The students will now continue the Pathways to Medicine programme by undertaking three days of work experience and attending the HYMS Summer School in July.
