The Hull York Medical School operates under the governance frameworks of the Universities of Hull and York. We must meet the requirements of both the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education and the General Medical Council.
We have a number of regulations, policies and codes of practice relating to our specific activities. These set out principles, requirements, standards, roles, responsibilities and procedures so that we can conduct business effectively.
It's important that both staff and students familiarise themselves with the policies and codes that apply across the whole school, as well as those that are specific to our undergraduate or postgraduate programmes.

Regulations are the official rules governing the conduct of staff and students at HYMS. They must be followed.
Academic regulations provide an appropriate quality and standards framework for programmes of study. Compliance with academic regulations is compulsory.
Policies are designed as guiding principles which support decision-making in HYMS.
Policies are different from regulations. Regulations specify what must or must not be done, while policies guide actions towards a goal.
Codes of practice set out the standards for HYMS processes, procedures and organisational structures. Codes of practice support policies in day-to-day operational matters.
