Dr Janine Henderson

Programme Director, MB BS

Janine joined HYMS as a tutor in 2004 and became Director of PBL in 2005, developing the delivery of the curriculum in Phase I. She was a co-founder of the HYMS Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCME) and has subsequently held diverse roles in the school including Associate Dean for Admissions and Academic Lead for Phase 2. She was appointed Programme Director for the MB BS in February 2014.

 Janine’s clinical background is in General Adult Psychiatry. She has a particular interest in the teaching and learning of clinical reasoning skills and has developed new approaches to this in the HYMS curriculum. With colleagues from other UK medical schools, Dr Anna Hammond and Dr Henderson have co-founded a national special interest group for teaching clinical reasoning (www.creme.org.uk)

During that time she co-founded the HYMS Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCME). From 2011 to early 2014, she was the Associate Dean for Admissions leading all aspects of HYMS admissions processes. In August 2012, she became Academic Lead for Phase 2 and was appointed Programme Director for the MB BS in February 2014.  

Janine’s clinical background is in General Adult Psychiatry. She has developed and delivered a number of SSCs in this area, to help students develop a real understanding and interest in this important area of medical practice. She has a particular interest in the teaching and learning of clinical reasoning skills and has developed new teaching approaches for undergraduate students. With colleagues from a number of UK medical schools, Dr Anna Hammond and Dr Henderson co-founded a national special interest group for teaching clinical reasoning in undergraduate curricula (www.creme.org.uk).

Janine is the co-author of Eureka Psychiatry and series editor for a new series of textbooks called Eureka, which integrate core science, clinical medicine and surgery for medical students (http://www.jpmedpub.com/subjectarea.aspx?CatID=62&Catname=Eureka&BookType=Series).
