Dr Peter Bazira

Senior Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy

Peter takes the lead on delivery of clinical anatomy learning opportunities on the undergraduate medical (MBBS) curriculum, and on postgraduate surgical short courses delivered by HYMS. He is also the Programme Director for the MSc in Clinical Anatomy & MSc in Clinical Anatomy and Education, the HTA Designated Individual for HYMS Anatomy Facilities & the Daisy Tumour Bank, and the Academic Lead for Widening Participation

Peter is a medically qualified clinical anatomist. He studied medicine and anatomy at Makerere University, worked in General Practice and Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Mulago National Referral Hospital, and taught anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine (now the College of Health Sciences) of Makerere University. He earned his doctorate in education from the University of Sheffield. As a classically trained anatomist, Peter has been an active teacher of embryology, histology, gross anatomy, comparative anatomy, radiological anatomy and clinically applied anatomy since 1997. He was previously Assistant Lecturer in Anatomy at Makerere University, then Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy and Head of Anatomy at St George's, University of London.

His main professional interests lie in the areas of a) learning in the context of medical and health professions education, b) access and participation in medical and health professions education, and c) medical education policy.
