As a HYMS postgraduate student, you will be registered at either the University of Hull or the University of York. But you will have access to facilities and support at both our parent universities, regardless of where you are registered.
Finding accommodation
Both universities offer accommodation for postgraduate students, and provide extensive support to help you find somewhere to live.
How we decide your parent university
The university where you're registered (either Hull or York) is called your 'parent university'. We decide this as follows:
- If you're studying for a research qualification, your parent university will be wherever your principal supervisor works. This will normally be stated on your offer letter.
- If you're studying for a taught qualification, your parent university will be decided at random after you accept a place (even if you are a current student at Hull or York). You should only accept a place if you're prepared to be registered at either parent university. Our aim is to create two groups of equal size.
