Professor Simon Gilbody
Professor of Psychological Medicine and Health Services Research
Simon's main area of interest is the management of common mental health problems in primary care, and he has published widely on the value of screening strategies and case management for depression. He collaborates with colleagues from the Universities of Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Bristol on an MRC-funded trial of enhanced care for depression, and he is principal investigator on the largest ever trial of computer-delivered Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Depression, funded by the Health Technology Assessment Programme.
Simon contributes to HYMS teaching in psychological medicine, psychiatry, population health and evidence-based decision making.
Barry is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist. He is clinical lead (and clinical advisor to the Board) for child mental health services in the North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust, and clinical lead for the National Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, which achieved National Commissioning Group funding in April 2009, with bases in York, London, Dudley and Taunton. Barry runs the Mental Health curriculum at HYMS in Year 3, and sits on the school's Fitness to Practise Committee.
