Our researchers are supported by the Research office, which is based at the University of York.
The Research Support Office provides HYMS researchers (both staff and students) with general support and advice on most research-related issues, including:
The office also maintains databases of staff publications and assists with the grant application and sign-off procedure.
If you are employed by the University of York and hosted for research purposes within another University of York academic department you should follow the procedures of that department in submitting your grant application. Please keep the HYMS Research Office informed of grant submissions. If you are not hosted within a different department please contact the research office for further specific guidance.
If you are employed by the University of Hull the process for gaining approval prior to grant submission or contract sign off is outlined in these flow charts: Hull Research Approval Process. For University of Hull submissions, the HYMS Research Office requires notification of your intention to submit a grant proposal as early as possible via a Notification of Intention to Submit form.
If your substantive contract is with an NHS organisation you should approach the research department of your employing organisation in the first instance.
HYMS as an organisation is not a legal entity, hence any requests for Research Goverance Sponsorship need to be directed to one of the two partner universities. Usually requests for governance sponsorship should be directed to the researcher's (or research supervisor's) employing University.
University of York sponsorship enquiries should be directed to the Research Grants and Contracts Office, specifically Sue Final, firstname.lastname@example.org or 01904 435154 .
University of Hull sponsorship enquiries should be directed to the Strategic Development Unit, specifically Andrew Taylor, A.F.Taylor@hull.ac.uk or 01482 465317.
If your substantive contract is with an NHS organisation you should approach the research department of your employing organisation in the first instance. However if you require governance sponsorship for the purposes of a research degree you should approach the University with which you are registered, which should ordinarily be the employing University of your supervisor.
Please keep the HYMS research Office aware of all sponsorship request enquiries.
The academic leads for the Research Office are Professor Bill McGuire at York and Professor Ian Chetter at Hull.
