The selection process
In 2012, we received 21 applicants to the scheme. This was the highest number of applicants yet, and all panel members commented on the very high standard of the applications.
Selection was based on the merit of the research, and the value of the research training experience it offered to applicants. The panel gave preference to research projects with a clearly-defined objective that was achievable in the time given. Also, where two applications from Phase I and II students were equally ranked, the panel gave priority to the Phase I applicant.
After the project
If you receive a bursary, we will ask you to submit a short scientific report (maximum of 2000 words) after you complete your project. Your supervisor will also be asked to read and comment on the report.
Your report should have the following structure:
- abstract
- introduction
- method
- results
- discussion / conclusion
- references
You should also include a short paragraph of personal reflection, commenting on your research experience as a whole.
Submit your report to research@hyms.ac.uk by Friday 12 October 2012.
