Following scientific posts with Aberdeen University and the Scottish Office, Giles was seconded from the University of Hull to the Millennium Commission’s £46m Deep Millennium Project, overseeing its implementation and construction as Deputy Chief Executive. Joining the Hull York Medical School (HYMS) in 2001, Giles was centrally involved in the establishment and development of this innovative organisation, where he is currently Head of Administration. With a strong interest in governance and fitness to practise matters, Giles was a Board member of the GMC Gateways disability project 2007/8, is a member of the Medical Schools Council Student Fitness to Practise Group and has been co-chair of the annual national Medical Schools Council/General Medical Council Student Fitness to Practise Training Conference since 2010. He is also a member of the Medical Schools Council/General Medical Council task group on Sharing and Transfer of Student Information.
