STYLE GUIDE

How to apply these guidelines

These guidelines in this guide are important to make sure that our communications are:

  • clear
  • consistent
  • professional-looking
  • legally acceptable
  • accessible to audiences with different needs (for instance, to users with disabilities).

In principle, the guidelines in this book apply to all the official communications that HYMS produces. They are largely aimed at printed documents, but many apply to electronic media too, such as e-mails and web pages.

In practice, it can be difficult to decide what counts as an "official" HYMS communication. A good rule of thumb is that any document which bears the HYMS logo counts as official, so these guidelines should apply. If in doubt, apply them!
