Accommodation

All HYMS students are based at either Hull or York in their first two years. First-year students (and second-year international students) who apply for a place in University residences by 1 September are guaranteed accommodation.

At Hull

The University of Hull offers many different types of accommodation, including catered halls of residence, self-catering on-campus flats, and self-catering university-owned student houses. A number of residences are specially adapted for students with disabilities. Prices range from £55 for a student house (self-catered) to £126 per week for a large, fully-catered room in university halls of residence.

Although all of these options are available to you as a HYMS student, we recommend that student houses or the en-suite rooms in Taylor Court flats would be best suited to your needs, because these places offer a contract which fits in with the longer HYMS terms. In halls the 31-week contract period is shorter than the HYMS term length, so you will need to make alternative arrangements to cover the extra days. Depending on availability, you might be able to arrange a move into a student house for this period.

At York

If you're based at York, you will become a member of one of the University's eight undergraduate colleges which all have extensive on-campus accommodation. College rooms are single, and about half of them have en-suite facilities.

Most rooms are self-catering, but meals are available at the range of café bars and dining rooms around campus. The university provides an inclusive catered accommodation package for a number of rooms in Derwent and Langwith colleges. Most colleges also have a TV room, a bar, a common room, and a laundrette. There is specially appointed accommodation for those with disabilities.

A typical week's rent for a single student is between £85–£118. Most rooms are let on a 38-week basis.
