Our typical offer is AAA at A2, achieved in a single sitting, including Biology and Chemistry (with a pass in practical experiments for reformed A-Levels completed in 2017 or later).
If you apply to HYMS in your A2 year, you must be predicted to achieve AAA for us to consider your application (except if you apply via one of our formal widening participation schemes in which case you must be predicted ABB or above, with the A in Biology or Chemistry).
For the third A2 subject, we consider all subjects equally but we do not accept General Studies, Applied Science, Citizenship or Critical Thinking. We strongly encourage applications from students who are studying arts or humanities subjects.
We do not consider Maths and Further Maths, or Biology and Human Biology, as distinct subjects for the purposes of offering 3 distinct A-Level subjects.
We expect A-Levels to be taken over a two-year period and we prefer all three A-Levels to be taken together at the end of the two years. We won't accept an A-Level taken in Year 11 or earlier.
Other A-Level elements
Undertaking the Extended Project won't be a condition of our offer, but we do recognise that it will provide you with the opportunity to develop research and academic skills that are relevant for our course.
You can also offer a single vocational A-Level in Health and Social Care or IT, or a distinction in a single level 3 BTEC award or certificate, in combination with Biology and Chemistry A-Levels.
If you intend to offer dual award AVCEs, you should contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
For 2018 entry, we are considering reintroducing the requirement for a 4th distinct subject post-16. If so, it is likely that we would accept an AS-Level, an EPQ or a Core Maths qualification.
