One of the most exciting parts of your medical training at HYMS will be your elective. This is a period of eight weeks just before your final year when you'll have the chance to travel abroad or work in a specialist service in the UK.
Most students find their electives a hugely educational, enjoyable and rewarding experience. You'll gain invaluable clinical experience in an environment that's very different from a regular medical course, encountering medical issues which stretch your current understanding. It's also a chance to reflect on your professional and personal development.
Other students' electives in recent years have included hospitals and research institutes in Vanuatu, Tenerife, Belize and South Africa, as
well as organisations in the UK such as the Institute of Neurology in London.
