Alex is a Clinical Research Fellow in Cancer Nursing within the TRANSFORM group for Transforming Cancer Outcomes in Yorkshire - funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Alex is currently undertaking a PhD focusing on bereavement support for children.


Alex studied nursing at the University of Hull and graduated in 2007. She has always been passionate about providing excellent end of life care and has worked within critical care, oncology and palliative care, transfusion services and as a specialist nurse in organ donation.

Alex completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Oncology and Palliative care in 2015 and was awarded a distinction for her Master of Science in Health Studies (Education and Leadership) in 2019. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority (FHEA) .

Alex’s move from clinical practice to research was motivated by her desire to improve support for bereaved families. She currently works in the hospital’s bereavement support group.


Alex’s research, under the TRANSFORM group, currently focuses on how best to support children and their families following the death of a parent.
