JD is a qualified General and Mental Health Nurse, a Chartered Health Psychologist, has a Masters degree in Public Health and a PhD investigating the use of psychological theory in influencing the adoption of best practice by health care practitioners.  She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Hull, the interim Co-Director of the SEDA research group and is an Academic Fellow and Executive member of the Yorkshire Humber Academic Health Science Network’s Improvement Academy (IA).  Her research and her clinical practice (within the IA) involve the use of psychology in assessing the determinants of health or implementation behaviours and co-design (with service users or practitioners) or interventions to support (health or practice) behaviour change. 

Biography

Research

With a passion for Implementation Science and health (and other) behaviour change Judith works across a range of research and clinical improvement projects designing theoretically underpinned interventions to support both practitioners and service users.  Examples of current research projects include the (validation and) implementation of a Computer Aided Risk Score (CARS)http://www.improvementacademy.org/patient-safety/computer-aided-risk-score.html, the PoWER/PoWER360 programme (gender differences in academic roles) http://www2.hull.ac.uk/power.aspx the DEAResT project (co-creating healthy ageing in hull) and the further development/validation of the MoLES (Skin Self Examination) index.    

As an Academic Fellow and Executive member of the Yorkshire and Humber Academic Health Sciences Network’s Improvement Academy Judith works across a wide range of clinical projects from enhancing the adoption of the WHO patient safety checklist in the operating theatre to appropriate antimicrobial prescribing in the care of older people.  (http://www.improvementacademy.org/tools-and-resources/abc-for-patient-safety-toolkit.html).
