Centre for Biomedicine

The Centre for Biomedicine brings together academics and researchers from a range of disciplines to address some of the major challenges in biomedical research and practice.

As people are living longer and in light of evolving healthcare needs such as the increased prevalence of long-term health conditions and multimorbidity, healthcare needs to evolve.

In response, in collaboration with the University of Hull, we offer a distinctive suite of innovative undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to train the next generation of talented researchers and healthcare professionals with the skills needed to make a positive difference to patients locally and beyond.

Our programmes are informed by the latest innovation and research from the Biomedical Institute for Multimorbidity – whose collaborations with clinical researchers, the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and industry including Astra Zeneca, Reckitt, and Proctor & Gamble, mean that our degrees are at the very forefront of the field.

Undergraduate programmes

Offered by the University of Hull:

  • BSc in Biomedical Science – accredited by The Institute of Biomedical Science, this degree equips students with the knowledge and skills to work at the cutting edge of health research, driving innovation that saves lives.
  • BSc in Forensic Science – accredited by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, this degree equips students with the skills to become a competent and confident forensic scientist, as well as transferable skills for a wide range of careers.

Postgraduate taught programmes

Offered by Hull York Medical School:

  • MSc in Pharmacology and Drug Development – Developed in partnership with Reckitt, a leading global health, hygiene and nutrition company, we offer students the opportunity to develop cutting-edge practical and analytical skills in demand from employers.
  • MSc in Pharmacology and Education – A unique opportunity to be immersed in the clinical, basic science and industrial aspects of pharmacology, alongside developing the skills to deliver exceptional teaching, assessment, course design and educational research – so our students can continue to inspire and lead in pharmacology education.

Offered by the University of Hull:

  • MSc in Biomedical Science - Biomedical science uses a basis of biological principles to enhance our understanding of human health and the treatment of disease. Students will also gain an understanding of the importance of research and experience in advanced techniques, incorporating research design and data analysis skills in demand from employers.
  • MSc in Health and Climate Change - This programme is aimed at current or future health leaders who are prepared to meet the challenge of climate change and its threat to human health. This MSc focuses on the impact of climate change on human health and explores strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change from a public health perspective.
