The prestigious Allam Lecture series has welcomed keynote speeches from some of the country's leading experts in medical research in recent years, and we are very pleased to be joined in 2026 by Professor Fliss Murtagh.

Fliss is one of the UK’s leading researchers in the field of advanced illness and palliative care. She is in her second term as an NIHR Senior Investigator, and is co-lead of the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Palliative and End of Life Care. During 2025 and 2026, she has been called on for parliamentary expert advice, including for the Public Accounts Committee and the Palliative Care Commission.

A doctor by background, she worked for almost 10 years as a General Practitioner, and approaching 20 years as a Palliative Medicine consultant. She now works as Professor of Palliative Care at Hull York Medical School at the University of Hull, and Visiting Professor of Palliative Care at the Cicely Saunders Institute, King’s College London, UK. Fliss leads the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre at the University of Hull, a group of about 40 researchers and one of the largest palliative care research groups in the UK.

In addition to this year's keynote lecture, attendees will have the opportunity to discover some of the exciting research work currently being undertaken by Hull York Medical School and the wider Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Hull, and to submit questions to a panel of experts, including Professor Murtagh.
