I am a medical statistician at the Institute of Clinical and Applied Health Research (ICAHR) Methods Hub. I work closely with the Hull Health Trials Unit. My main duty is to provide statistical methodological resource to safeguard the full range of applied health research such as clinical trials, health services research, clinical and population epidemiology, clinical and health psychology and public health.

Biography

Dr. Chao Huang obtained his PhD in Statistics from the University of Manchester in 2010 and then he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in medical statistics during the following year. From 2012, he started his role as a Trial Statistician at the South East Wales Trial Unit, Centre for Trials Research, Cardiff University. From October 2017, he became a Senior Lecturer in Statistics at the Hull York Medical School, University of Hull.

  • BSc in Mathematical Statistics, Nankai University, China (2003)
Research

As a statistical methodologist, Dr. Chao Huang's research interests arise in the development of statistical methodology in various research fields, particularly when it applies to clinical and medical science. This includes experimental design, longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, missing data issues and informative observations, joint modelling approach and variable selection.

Collaboratively Dr. Chao Huang has been largely involved in research covering a variety of health-related fields. This leads to his research focus on trial methodology, particularly the ones with complex design.

Teaching

Within Hull York Medical School, Dr. Chao Huang undertakes teachings in statistics-related modules. He also provides teaching and consultancy services in statistics and evidence based medicine to NHS professionals from Hull University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.
