In addition, I am a URKI Policy Fellow based at the Cabinet Office within the Evaluation Task Force with a particular focus on public health policy.

Biography

I trained in general medicine and then completed my CCT in cardiology in the Northern region. During my clinical training I completed Masters degrees in public health (Newcastle University) and health professions education (HYMS), and an MD in cardiovascular epidemiology (University of Leeds). I was previously an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology at Newcastle University, and undertook a Ionescu visiting research fellowship at Dalhousie University.

Alongside my academic role, I am an honorary consultant cardiologist at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. I contribute to the acute cardiology service in addition to sub-specialty work in heart failure and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and support the Academic Cardiovascular Unit.

Within the medical school, I serve as deputy chair of the Student Fitness to Practice Committee. I am co-director of the University of York Policy Academy.

I am also a URKI Policy Fellow based at the Cabinet Office working on health policy.

Research

My research interests are in population health - in particular the impact of frailty, improving healthcare quality and reducing inequalities.

I am co-PI of a British Heart Foundation grant looking into the opportunities for reducing stroke through identifying atrial fibrillation through contact with ambulance services.

I am also a member of the South Tees Academic Cardiovascular Unit.

Teaching

Within Hull York Medical School, I deliver SSIP modules on healthcare quality.

I provide bedside teaching within the hospital, and provide clinical supervision to the wider multi-disciplinary team.

I am an experienced clinical educator, and hold an MSc in health professions education and a senior fellowship of the higher education academy.
