Amanda is a Research Associate in the Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) at Hull York Medical School. Her research aims to improve the lives of people with severe mental illness. They use mixed-methods approaches to improve pathways to preventive care, so that people with severe mental illness can live healthier, longer lives.The role sits within the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Applied Research Collaboration (ARC). So Amanda also manages the ARC Mental Health Theme, working with stakeholders across the region to deliver its research goals.

Biography

Amanda is a nurse and mental health researcher from Brazil. She holds a nursing degree, MSc and PhD from the University of São Paulo, where her doctorate explored suicide prevention in primary care. In the UK, she has investigated self-harm surveillance systems at the University of Leeds and worked as an NHS care coordinator supporting people with severe mental illness and long-term conditions.

Research

Amanda is interested in health inequalities, physical health of people with severe mental illness, mixed methods research, policy and access to care.
