Role at Hull York Medical School

I teach forensic science, analytical chemistry, general chemistry, and introductory biology to undergraduate and postgraduate students on numerous modules from Level 3 Foundation Year to Level 7 Masters. I am also a keen supporter of the School's student recruitment and outreach activities.

Biography

Dr John Williams is an established academic with a background in analytical chemistry and forensic science.After his PhD studies, he became a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Leeds. Since leaving there, he has had 23 years experience teaching at universities in the UK and overseas.

He was a Lecturer and then Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman.Upon his return to the UK, Dr Williams became a Teaching Fellow then a Lecturer of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Hull. He left the Department of Chemistry and joined the Centre for Biomedicine as a Lecturer in Forensic Science.

Research

My research interests include finger marks and footwear impressions, drug analysis, and forensic science education.

I deliver the subject workshop content to Biomedical and Forensic Science students.

I am the module leader and deliver half the lecture content.

I deliver the lecture content on the thermodynamics of biological systems, and the identification and separation of organic compounds.

I am the module leader and deliver the separation science lecture and laboratory content.

I supervise the chemistry-themed practical classes in the laboratory and the classroom-based case study workshops.

I am the module leader and supervise the practical classes in the crime scene facility.

I am the supervisor of several final-year students undertaking Level 6 research projects.
