Role at Hull York Medical School

As a Research Fellow on the DESTIGMATISE project, Kafayat's role will include supporting its day-to-day coordination and ensuring high-quality research. She will contribute to key aspects of the study, including participant recruitment, data collection, systematic reviews, and rigorous data analysis. She will work closely with Black communities, NHS partners, and other stakeholders to co-produce culturally appropriate educational resources, while managing patient and public involvement (PPI) activities and facilitating stakeholder engagement workshops.

Kafayat will also ensure that all research activities adhere to governance and ethical standards. In addition, she will support the project lead in disseminating findings through publications, reports, and conferences, while contributing to wider academic activities such as mentoring, collaboration, and professional development.

Biography

Kafayat is an early career researcher. She holds a PhD in Medical Sociology/Anthropology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Her research focuses on advancing equitable health outcomes among Black communities. Her research portfolio spans mental health, spinal cord injury, COVID-19 risk communication, and antimicrobial resistance. Her work is driven by community engagement and participatory approaches to improve health outcomes for underserved populations.
