Hull York Medical School welcomes cell biologists

On Friday 15 September, Hull York Medical School welcomed delegates from the Universities of Sheffield, Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Lancaster, Manchester, York, and Hull to the North of England Cell Biology Forum at the University of Hull. This one-day event brought together molecular cell biologists of all levels to encourage collaboration and exchange of ideas, and was sponsored by the British Society for Cell Biology, and the Biochemical Society.

The day consisted of ten talks and around 30 poster presentations, and was chaired entirely by PhD and post-doctoral students, representing a fantastic opportunity for young researchers to present their latest data to peers in a friendly and collaborative atmosphere.

Prizes were awarded for both posters and talks, with first prize for the oral presentation given to Dr Sviatlana Shashkova (University of York) and second prize to Holly Wilkinson (University of Hull). The prizes in the poster category were both won by master’s students, with first prize going to Adam Moverley (University of Hull), and second prize to Jessica Bithell (Liverpool University).

Next year’s event will be held in Huddersfield; for more information, please contact Simon Calaminus, Francisco Rivero or Roger Sturmey.
