Hull York Medical School has risen 4 places in the Complete University Guide rankings, reinforcing its reputation as a leading provider of medical education and continued commitment to delivering an outstanding student experience.

In the Complete University Guide 2027, Hull York Medical School is ranked 18th in the UK for Medicine, placing it amongst the country’s leading medical schools and 1st in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Published annually, the Complete University Guide ranks UK universities overall performance and compares them across 74 subject areas. It uses a broad range of indicators including student satisfaction, entry requirements, research quality, continuation and graduate outcomes – drawing on data from the National Student Survey and Higher Education Statistics agency.

The Medical School performed strongly in areas such as research quality (ranked 11th), graduate prospects (ranked joint 1st), and student satisfaction (ranked 7th), reflecting its focus on preparing students to become confident, compassionate, exceptional doctors.

Professor Lucy Ambrose, Associate Dean Education at the Medical School said: ‘We are incredibly proud to see Hull York Medical School recognised once again in a major national league table.  The ranking reflects our continued commitment to providing a high-quality teaching and student experience. It also reflects the dedication and hard work of colleagues across the school, together with our NHS partners, who ensure that we continue to offer a supportive and stimulating learning environment.’

Hull York Medical School is a partnership between the University of Hull and the University of York and is well known for its patient-centred approach – combining problem-based learning, clinical and communication skills and early clinical experience. Its innovative curriculum, combined with its focus on supporting students from backgrounds typically underrepresented in medicine, means it attracts students from across the local region, the UK and internationally, offering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

The Medical School was ranked 3rd in the UK in Guardian University Guide 2026 ranking. And in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2025 student feedback placed the School ahead of the sector across all survey themes, from teaching to academic support and wellbeing services.

The 2026 Complete University Guide results further strengthen the Medical School’s reputation as a provider of high-quality medical education that delivers real-world impact.
