Alex is a Clinical Research Fellow in Nutrition at the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre. She is currently working on a mixed-methods study investigating nutrition related wasting disorders in older adults with cancer, as part of the Yorkshire Cancer Research funded Transform group. Alex is a registered Dietitian, specialising in oncology, including head and neck radiotherapy, palliative oncology and upper gastrointestinal surgery.
Alex joined HYMS in September 2018 to investigate the detection and assessment of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia in older adults with cancer as part of their PhD.
As part of her PhD, Alex has recently completed a mixed-methods observational cohort study with older adults with cancer, investigating the prevalence, overlap, and predictors of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia in hospitalised patients.
Recent publications include a systematic review and meta-analysis of markers of malnutrition in older adults with cancer, and a mixed-methods systematic review investigating patients views and experiences of malnutrition screening.
