About this project

Patients with advanced liver disease often experience symptoms and concerns that are specific to their condition. Unfortunately, these are not always recognised or fully addressed in routine medical care.

This research project aims to validate a brief measure called the Integrated Palliative Care Outcome Scale – Liver (IPOS‑Liver). The study will examine whether IPOS‑Liver is suitable for use in the clinical care of people with advanced liver disease. The questionnaire focuses on symptoms and concerns commonly experienced by these patients, helping healthcare professionals better understand patients’ needs and improve the care they provide.

As part of the study, patients with advanced liver disease, as well as the healthcare professionals involved in their care, will be asked to complete the IPOS‑Liver measure. This will allow us to evaluate how well it works in practice. A small number of patients will also be invited to take part in interviews to share their views on the clarity, relevance, and usefulness of IPOS-Liver.

An audio recording of the information sheet for participants who have been invited to participate in this research project by their healthcare professional can be accessed here.
