The study aims to improve the quality and sustainability of homecare delivered to people living with advanced illness approaching the last months of life through skills development and empowerment and to inform employment practice, commissioning, and policy.
This project is a multi-method study that will be delivered in three linked work packages:
- Work Package 1 is a qualitative study exploring the experiences and needs of HCWs and the views of homecare clients, carers, community nurses/GPs, homecare agency managers and commissioners in Hull, Bradford and Bromley. It will also include a document analysis of local/national policy documents relevant to EoLC.
- Work Packages 2 and 3 involve identifying training/skill needs of HCWs, developing recommendations and a training resource for HCWs that can be tested and evaluated and identifying ways to include and support HCWs in the wider care team.
We will develop policy and practice recommendations based on the study findings and in conjunction with our partner, service user/carer and HCW advisory groups.
We will also develop a HCW training resource ready for formal evaluation.
